Kestrel
This American kestrel was captured in the fireplace of a house in Downers Grove with a fine layer of soot covering his feathers. After a bath of warm water to remove the soot, the bird was housed in an indoor cage for continued evaluation. However, staff was still concerned about other possible health issues. Had he inhaled any of the soot? Were his feathers damaged from the soot?
Three days after being admitted, this kestrel was given a clean bill of health by Willowbrook’s staff veterinarian. He will be released into a local forest preserve as soon as weather permits.
